What an inspired-by fragrance actually is

An inspired-by fragrance is an independent composition that aims at the same overall impression as a scent you already know: the same broad style, the same mood, the same rough direction on the skin. It is an interpretation rather than a copy. It is not the original, it is not made by the original house, and it will not be identical in the detail. What it does offer is the character you were after at a fraction of the outlay.

Who they are for

Trying a style before committing. If you are curious about a direction but not ready to spend £25 or more finding out, this is the cheaper way to test it.
Everyday wear. Keeping the original for occasions and an inspired-by bottle for the commute is a sensible way to make a favourite last.
Gifting with less risk. Buying for someone whose taste you are still learning costs far less at £12 to £16.
